2010 Shoot

On the 26th of June at Castlemaine we were delighted to welcome a total of 33 shooters to the John Creedon Memorial Shoot. Johnny would have been very impressed that so many of his acquaintances and friends honoured his memory by taking part. As he looked down on us he did his bit with the Lord by giving us a beautiful sunny day.

The competition itself was shot over 2 categories with a third African calibre shoot.

There was strong competition and some very close scoring at the challenging distance of 300 yards. With the V-Bull measuring a tiny 1” & strong/gusting Southerly winds, this was undoubtedly a challenging event.

Some of the expected "hot shots" didn't have things all their way and in the end, with an excellent top score of 95, the winner of the overall John Creedon Memorial Shoot was Francis Keane.

Edi Graef took first prize in the Factory/Light Sporting class. Edi was also lucky in winning the raffle with a prize of a centre-fire .308 hunting rifle.

Francis Keane was victorious in the Heavy/Target Rifle class while William (Bill) Daly was the best shot in the African class. Kevin McCarthy came in second, closely followed by the host at Castlemaine, Paddy O’Mahony, third.

The full results are available from the Results tab in the menu on the left.

A presentation of the proceeds is to take place to the Heffernan family, representing this year’s chosen charity, Bee for Battens.

The organisers would like to thank all those hunters and shooters who turned up on the day, especially those from the Wild Deer Association who hunted with "Johnny".

We would like to offer a special thanks to Michael Ryan for his excellent job as Range Officer on the day and to all who volunteered for duty in the butts.

Our sincerest thanks also to Mr. Paddy O’Mahony & Pat O’Mahony who kindly provided the range & their time free for the day. Everyone agreed that this was a first class event & many thanks to all who helped make it such a success.

There were a few raffles on the day. Congratulations to the lucky winners: Michael Ryan from Birdhill who won an African trophy Kudu & Jonathan Kavanagh, the winner of a three day Driven Boar hunt in Hungary, kindly sponsored by Nagyvad Hunting.

There were some stunning prizes available (over €3000 in value) so a special thank you to Kevin McCarthy of Mid West Sporting Supplies, main sponsor of the event.

Please check out our gallery page for pictures of the winners & overall “flavour of the day”.

It was a fine event and well done to the organizers.
